free 3D animal maker/creature maker software?

Postby EagleBZ » Mon Mar 03, 2014 2:43 am

Hi, thought someone on this site said there was a piece of software that's free d/l where you can create all kinds of creatures, aliens, birds, fish, angels, etc, by first, using free software called "make animal" exporting the mesh, importing it into "make human" and then tweaking/playing around with it. I googled for it, can't seem to find it. he said it was an idea from 2007/2008.

if there is such a piece of free software like MH (from MH sister site?) could you please link me to it?

thanks in advance.

You probably heard about this:

http://www.makehuman.org/blog/makecow_alpha_1_released.html

However, please notice that the date was April 1st. Not a good day for reliable information.

Quite out of scope of the MakeHuman application, I fear.
I believe you were misinformed.

well, I was thinking of saving my money and then going on FXR's website and purchasing FXR creature creator, the stand alone version, but lately when I go on FXR's website to price this software, I get a blank page that's underneath the blue FXR banner at the top of FXR's webpage - look: http://www.fxrsoft.com/standalone

so I don't know why or what happened, but I wanted to use FXR CC so I can create demons and angels (with animation/rigging capabilities) for this movie that I've mentioned elsewhere in this forum, and just now I've already checked to see if I can buy it off of Amazon, but they do not seem to have it.

Is there any way I can get this software possibly cheaper/without going on FXR's website (I don't want to get "spore creature creator," since spore CC is more of a juvenile nature, too juvenile for my needs)?

EDIT - if there is another piece of creature creator software (again, not spore creature creator, but, then again, I do not know anything about SCC, except that maybe it is a juvenile PC game, aimed at the youth computer entertainment market) that is like FXR CC or even superior to it) that I can get cheaper, then I'd go for it instead.

can anyone please help me?

thanks in advance.

This is an intriguing request. If you use DAZ Free Studio, you can purchase this angel (fairy?) for $9.95: http://www.daz3d.com/sweet-angel

Or you can purchase this 'summoned demon' bundle for $14.95 http://www.daz3d.com/summoned-demon-bundle

I'm not crazy about how proprietary DAZ is, but the interface with its built-in tutorials is outstanding. HTH. ;)

If you are putting together a commercial movie be sure to read the license agreement carefully. If you start to become very successful and violated the agreement, DAZ lawyers probably make their living going after people like you at the time when your new found success is most vulnerable.

No, I'm not even thinking of going commercial.

I did a search a month ago of free creature creator SW, and I found this Yahoo message where someone else was asking the same question.

http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index ... 406AAXGArJ

and so far, it looks like these 3D SW are available:

Source:
freeware 3d tools,
Anim8or Free 3D Animation Software
http://www.anim8or.com/
Blender3d
http://www.blender.org/
Google SketchUp
http://sketchup.google.com/
gmax
http://www.turbosquid.com/gmax
..

I've already tried (and d/l and installed) Blender, Anim8or, Google Sketch Up, last one to try is gmax.

I did try using SketchUp to create this creature (see image attachment) about a month ago, but no go.

Well, look what I found - sort of "by chance" Creature Creator v1.6.

http://creature-creator-standalone-ver1 ... tonic.com/

and Creature Labs

http://creature-labs.en.softonic.com/

on this site,

http://en.softonic.com/author/fxrealm-studios-ab

but gee, look at those hefty prices. Is there some way I could get this SW cheaper?

EDIT - after a bit of more searching around, I found Creature Labs as a d/l from Cnet

http://download.cnet.com/windows/creatu ... 673-1.html

and I don't see any price tag, don't know if its free from cnet/full d/l/standalone?

Unlikely that that last one is free; the license is internal to the software, not added on.

What exactly are you trying to do? No offense, but saying that you've downloaded and tried all those apps is like saying that you've tried guitar, keyboard, bass, drums and synthesizer, but haven't found the instrument you like.

You need to see what your skill set is, then compare it to where you want it to be.

A good start would be to search Patrick Tatopoulos work, such as the creature from Outlander.

http://www.g4tv.com/videos/14664/patrick-tatopoulos-outlander-design-preview/

Notice how it is drawn with red pastel on quality (high-tooth) paper; then modelled in clay, and finally modelled in 3d software, in this case Maya.

You can do all this using Makehuman and Blender, if you are going for a human-type alien or monster.

I didn't know I could do this using MH and Blender, sounds neat.

I wonder, is it possible to create aliens/creatures in anim8or that are not a human-type, such as a sort of creature that has about 5 legs, its body looks sort of like a human hand (but without the arm part) I see a drawing of an alien like this in one of the books in my home library, book is called "the science of aliens" and in another of my books called "aliens among us" by Ruth Montgomery, there are descriptions (no pictures in that book) of an alien the looks like a chicken, an alien that looks like a man but without the nose, and an alien animal that has the body of a horse but it has the head/feet of a dog, so how can I create aliens that look like these that I can rig and animate using SketchUp, Blender, or Anim8or (yes, I know I could possibly use my Wacom Bamboo capture tablet for this sort of thing)?

Links to some tuts, please?

EDIT - I forgot that my copy of Poser 2012 has the default animals, reptiles, included, so maybe I can switch their heads, add extra legs, lop off a few parts, etc, in order to create these aliens i mentioned (I never tried this,) then export to Blender, use Bamboo capture tablet, etc?

A classic in this area is 'Barlowe's Guide to Extraterrestrials' http://www.toplessrobot.com/2012/02/10_awesome_wayne_barlowe_extraterrestrial_illustra.php

Wayne Barlowe is so good that in an open world-class competition for the monters in Hellboy 2 he won out (and he's way past retirement age).
Especially he works on the 'believability' of his creations.

You could create a noseless alien using Makehuman and Blender. The one cardinal rule is that once you have exported your basic human template from Makehuman to Blender, you absolutely cannot add or delete a vertex, because that will destroy all the shape keys, and since the basic shape is now a shape key, that means everything is destroyed. Ouch.

What you will need to learn to do is to model the mesh so that it is as close to your design as possible. You can however, add things like wigs or wings to the basic human---because you can add bones to the rig--so that if you know how to dress up your character (halters, armor, etc) you could add a lot of things, and still have all the Makehuman/Blender controls working.

Here is a very simple tutorial: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HNYTX-Mgf4w
